SO WHAT DO RESIDENTS PAY?

At Thompson Health Care homes the daily fee residents pay:

  • Basic care fee (that all residents now pay)
  • +an extra service fee (for higher standard of accommodation and services)
  • +a daily accommodation fee (instead of paying a bond upon entry)
  • +an income-tested care fee, if payable.

    ARE NURSING HOME FEES TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

    Nursing home residents may be entitled to claim a tax rebate for care fees, under the Medical Expenses Rebate. The Rebate allows taxpayers to reclaims 20c in the $1 of any out of pocket medical expenses exceeding $1250 annually. According to the Australian Tax Office, provided residentsreceiving nursing home care has an illnes, both the income tested daily fees and annual accommodation charges may qualify for the Medical Expenses Rebate.
    As the eligibility varies according to the individual circumstances, THC recommends residents and prospective residents seek the advice of an accountant or financial adviser.
